Metamo has launched CU-Tech, a technology and infrastructure initiative designed to accelerate digital transformation across Ireland's Credit Union sector, addressing rising member expectations for enhanced digital services, according to TechCentral.

The Irish fintech developed CU-Tech in collaboration with participating Credit Unions and technology partners. The centralised scalable platform delivers richer digital member experiences, stronger integration across core systems and partner services, and sector-owned future-ready digital infrastructure.

The launch coincides with Metamo's Winning Ways Research Programme, the largest Credit Union study undertaken in Ireland. The research, delivered with Amárach Research, comprises 14,120 member responses across 10 Credit Unions, a nationally representative survey of 1,000 members, and 820 non-members.

Research findings reveal digital capability has become a decisive factor, with 45% of non-members considering joining if digital services improved, rising to 59% among those under 25. Among members reporting improved experiences, digital transformation is the number-one driver at 37%. Nearly half of members believe Credit Unions must enhance digital offerings to compete in today's financial services market.

The study identifies two major membership groups: 40% "Happy as-is" members driven by trust and personal service, and 55% "Wants More" members whose expectations mirror banks and fintechs, seeking better apps, instant transfers and faster loan decisions.

Ciara Prendeville, Deputy CEO at Metamo, said: "Members deeply trust the sector and are also asking for modern digital services that match the convenience they experience elsewhere. CU-Tech will enable Credit Unions to meet those expectations, confidently and collectively, while staying true to the values that make our movement unique."

Nearly half of national members would engage more if online and mobile banking services were strengthened, directly aligning with CU-Tech's mission to support sector modernisation while addressing competitive pressures.
