Queen's University Belfast has officially commenced construction on the expanded Momentum One Zero innovation centre in the Titanic Quarter, marking a new phase for Northern Ireland’s premier digital innovation hub.

The development is a central component of the £70 million Belfast Region City Deal investment in digital innovation. Momentum One Zero operates as a business-led facility focused on advancing cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and wireless technologies.

The current expansion will provide purpose-built laboratories, secure computing environments, and collaborative spaces to allow researchers and industry partners to commercialise high-tech solutions.

The centre is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027 and will act as a focal point for digital transformation across sectors including financial services, agri-food, health, and sustainability. The project is projected to generate significant long-term economic growth and support more than 1,000 high-value jobs.

Professor Sir Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor, noted that Momentum One Zero demonstrates Queen’s commitment to turning research excellence into economic impact, strengthening the skills base, and helping businesses compete globally.

Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald highlighted the centre’s potential to transform the region into a global innovation destination, substantially increasing digital innovation activity and developing skills to meet industry demand.

Belfast Lord Mayor Tracy Kelly described the project as a “major investment in Belfast's future as a city of innovation, opportunity and good jobs,” emphasising the importance of strong partnerships with the UK Government, NI Government, and the Belfast Region City Deal.

Paul Murnaghan of BT and Chair of the Momentum One Zero Industry Advisory Board stated that the expansion will create a dynamic environment for collaboration, helping companies adopt advanced technologies, grow talent, and compete on a global stage.
