Facilities management company Sodexo UK and Ireland has launched an AI Academy in partnership with training provider Corndel, enrolling 60 colleagues on a 12-month apprenticeship programme designed to build practical AI capability across a broad range of roles and career stages. The initiative, reported by Facilities Management Journal, forms part of the company's wider digital transformation strategy and workforce development commitments.

Participants will earn either a level 3 digital support technician or data technician qualification, with the programme focused on applying AI to business problems and supporting more informed operational decision-making. Cohort members span entry-level and operational positions through to specialist and leadership functions.

Each participant is expected to become an AI champion within their team, supporting colleagues in the responsible adoption of AI tools and automation. Microsoft Copilot has been made a standard catalogue item for Sodexo colleagues, with supporting materials for Microsoft 365 products being developed in collaboration with Microsoft.

Pete Siddle, talent and learning director at Sodexo UK and Ireland, said: "This new programme gives our people the opportunity to grow their skills, build confidence and future-proof their careers, while continuing to deliver the high-quality services our clients and customers expect."

Vimal Mistry, service director at Sodexo UK and Ireland, said: "The Academy is key to driving our AI ambition embedding capability that scales responsibly and delivers real operational impact."

Nick Fisher, senior client manager at Corndel, said: "Programmes like this open up access to professional development and help employers build the skills they need for the future."

Corndel coaches will provide personalised support to each apprentice throughout the programme, helping participants balance study with workplace responsibilities.
